Kaypi, Chaypi, Wakpi
Aquí, Ahí, Allá
Here, There, Over There
The first solo exhibition for Andean American artist Lucía Morales, in the city that shaped part of her life, and her identity. Kaypi, Chaypi, Wakpi translates to “Here, There, Over There” in Quechua- the native language of the artist’s grandmother. There are three spaces, three languages, and three generations of women that are embodied in this exhibition. While the exhibition deals with intimate memories, moments, and traditions, the connection or distance from these is a collective experience. As we weave through time, place, and memories, migration can create feelings of belonging to multiple places, and multiple spaces at the same time. This exhibition aims to invite you into these intimate spaces, sharing the importance of our collective memories, our traditions, and our knowledge.
Dedicated to my grandmother Rosa Otilia Chavez de Perez, who believed in the strength of community and in celebrating traditions.
